Christmas is the time to relax and enjoy the holiday season and even Personal Trainers kick off their running shoes and recover from the year that has nearly passed. The month of December is the only time during the year where OZ FIT Personal Training is taking time off.

The dates below are the designated days that OZ FIT Personal Training will be closed for Christmas Break. The end of December and beginning of January

INTRODUCING KIDS FITNESS

OZ FIT Personal Training is now introducing a fitness program to help teach our younger generation how to lead a healthier lifestyle and keep active. It is so important to teach our kids at a young age that keeping fit and healthy is a way of life not a chore. We aim to make the sessions fun, enjoyable and achievable for all children by using a combination of fun games, hand-eye coordination drills and cardio drills. 

The program is for children aged between 5 and 12 years of age. The session goes for 30mins on a Wednesday at 5.30pm and is held at the Banfield Lane Park behind the Capalaba Tavern (next to the Capalaba Rugby League Fields). It will be $5 per child per session for 30mins. 

Our trainers are fully certified to work with children and are very passionate about helping future generations lead a healthy lifestyle. What they do now will affect them in years to come.

LADIES 8 Reasons you should get in the gym and lift some weights

 

1. You Will Reduce Your Risk of Type 2  Diabetes. The more muscle you have, the more insulin receptor sites you have, and the more sensitive they will be. Increased muscle tissue helps to prevents type 2 diabetes, a metabolic syndrome
 
2. You Will Fight Heart Disease. Strength training will improve your cholesterol profile, body fat and blood pressure. 

 

3. You Will Be Able to Fight Back Pain and Arthritis. At 12-year study showed that strengthening the low-back muscles had an 80 percent success rate in eliminating or alleviating low-back pain. Other studies have indicated that weight training can ease arthritis pain and strengthen joints. plus, the preventative effects that strength training has are huge. 

 

4. You’ll Be a Stronger Woman Physically. Studies have shown that weight training increases a woman’s strength by 30 to 50 percent. Extra strength will make it easier to accomplish daily activities, such as lifting children, carrying things, gardening, playing with grandchildren. Pound for pound, women can develop their strength at the same rate as men. 

 

5. You’ll Be a Stronger Woman Mentally. In addition, a Harvard study found that 10 weeks of strength training reduced symptoms of clinical depression more successfully than traditional counseling did. Women who weight train commonly report feeling more confident and capable as a result of their program. The mind and body are connected therefore, physical strength will transfer to mental strength. 
 
6. The more lean tissue you have the longer you may live. It is a far better predictor of longevity than total cholesterol or blood pressure 

 

7. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest. It is estimated that for every pound of muscle you gain you burn an extra 50 calories a day! compare this to a pound of fat that burns just 2 calories. 

 

8. You will dramatically decrease the risk of osteoporosis. Increasing bone density through good strength and weight training is key prevention of this problem and will significantly improve in women who already have the condition.

There seems to be a lot of interest in the fitness community around boot camps recently. The interest is not surprising, given that boot camps offer a number of advantages over traditional fitness programs. Here are the top 8 ways boot camps are changing fitness: 

8. Totally Inclusive

Boot camps are made up of people of all ages and fitness levels, each with his or her own fitness goals. Usually, everyone does the same exercises, but with weights and goals customized to the individual boot camper.

The ABT circuit class is about to start a new 6 week round. NEXT WEEK! It is a half an hour session held at our ney road studios on Tuesday mornings at 5.30am, Thursday 6am and Now Friday at 6am.

The class is based around strength, conditioning and cardio focusing on the Abs, Bum and Thighs. We have only 10 spots available per session. Healthy Beef Curry

A great recipe for the winter weather to keep our taste buds satisfied without the extra calories!

1 tbls coriander ground

1 tbls cumin, ground

½ tbls turmeric, ground

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp chilli powder

½ tbls grated ginger

Juice from 1 lemon and rind

1 tbls rice bran oil

600g chuck steak, extra lean

1 tbls tomato paste

1 ½ cups Jap’ pumpkin, cut into chunks

½ brocolli, cut into florets

3/4 cup lentils

1 litre beef stock, low sodium

 

Combine first seven ingredients to form a paste. Set aside. Heat oil in a large pot and in batches brown the beef. Take out of pot or move to one side. Add spice paste and cook for a minute. Put beef back into the pot and stir to coat with the spices. Add the paste and stir. Then add the pumpkin and broccoli  and lentils and stir to combine. Add the stock and bring to the boil. Now reduce to a simmer and cook covered for about 1½ hours. Beef will be tender. Remove lid, and let the sauce thicken slightly. Allow the curry to cool before storing in containers in the freezer. To serve, garnish with shredded mint and a lemon cheek. Serves 4

This is a great recipe for dinners or lunches and is filled with lots of flavour!!!
  •      1 large iceberg lettuce
  •       Rice Bran Oil spray
  •      220g lean chicken mince
  •      2 shallots, finely sliced
  •       1 medium carrot, diced
  •       2 celery stalks, diced
  •       1 red capsicum, diced
  •      3 teaspoons hoisin sauce
  •       2 teaspoons salt-reduced soy sauce
  •       1 garlic clove, crushed
  •      2 handfuls bean sprouts

 

Select the best lettuce leaves and if necessary trim them with scissors to make at least 6 large cups. Place in a large bowl filled with iced water to crisp.

Lightly spray a wok or frying pan with oil and heat on high. Stir fry the chicken and half the shallots for 2mins until the chicken is cooked through. Add the carrot, celery, capsicum, sauces and garlic. Stir fry for another 4 mins. Transfer immediately to a serving bowl. Scatter the remaining shallots.

To serve, arrange the lettuce cups on a platter with the bean sprouts. Spoon a little chicken mixture into each leaf, top with several bean sprouts and fold the lettuce over to enclose the filling. Eat with your hands. Serves 2
